How to not lose it when things go wrong

Happy Friday!

As I backed out of my garage today, I felt a clunk. So I stopped, got out and looked at the front end of my car sitting almost on the ground.

Shit!

I was excited to be on my way to my office for a weekend online class with one of my amazing teachers. It starts at 9:30 am, just 40 minutes from now.

So I called AAA. Guess when the tow truck will arrive? 9:27 am.

I could be freaking out because I spent a ton of money on the class and I had things I wanted to get done beforehand. I could be worried about what it will cost to repair the front end on the car. I could be pissed off that I won’t have a car for a few days.

It is kind of amazing that I feel calm in this moment.

Honestly, so much went right.

1. The car broke in my driveway.

2. The tow truck is on the way and I called to let them know it is an AWD. (I love my small town mechanic who knows me!)

3. I have a ride on the way to get me to my office and I still get to spend time doing my class this weekend.

4. I have enough $ to pay for the repair.

And most of all…

I actually can feel genuine gratitude in this moment for all of it. I am reminded that I am supported and that I have enough.

I know that we all have unexpected stuff happen. I find I deal way better with those things when I am practicing mindfulness. Right now, that simply looks like 5-10 minutes a day of meditation.

So, what about you?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.

How do things go when the unexpected happens? What happens In your body? In your mind?

If your reaction doesn’t feel good, what steps can you take for yourself to change that?

If it does go well, what do you do to help yourself stay in a place of responding and not reacting?
